Valencia is a large city made up of lots of different areas. One of the most authentically local areas is the 'barrio' (neighbourhood) of El Cabanyal (sometimes also spelled 'El Cabañal'). This is an area that sits right behind Valencia's main beach strip. It is an area where many Valencia locals live. It is famous for containing lots of buildings that are in the Modernist style (the style that Gaudi used). Take a stroll around the streets of El Cabanyal, and you will be amazed by how many modernist facades you see on the old buildings.
